Self-help: Preventing vaginal thrush
If you often have vaginal thrush, the following self-help measures may help to prevent further episodes of infection:

- Wash the vaginal area with water only. Try to avoid using bath additives, perfumed soaps, or vaginal deodorants or douches.
- Avoid spermicidal creams, lubricants, and latex condoms if you find they irritate the vagina.
- Avoid scented sanitary towels or tampons, change tampons frequently, and use sanitary towels instead of tampons as often as possible.
- Keep your external genital area clean, dry, and cool. Wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothes if possible.
- If thrush seems to be triggered by stress, try to avoid stressful situations whenever possible.
