1. Does diet play role in hair loss?
Healthy hair depends on good blood circulation and a proper diet. A good intake of minerals (especially iron) and vitamins makes hair strong, full and shiny: on the other hand, excess lipids and an unbalanced diet encourages seborrhoea (oily scalp), which accentuates hair fragility and promotes hair loss.
The body uses proteins, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates to produce about 15,000 hairs on a head of hair. When nutrients are lacking, hair becomes fragile, dry, brittle, lifeless and prone to premature loss. This is one of the reasons why extreme slimming diets are risky.
